How To Remove Rusted License Plate Screws
Simple activities can be difficult for people who don’t like to work on vehicles. In this case, it’s replacing rusty license plate screws.
What You Will Need:
- Deep penetration oil
- Spray bottle
- Vinegar (preferably white)
- Steel screws
1: Lubricate the screws with oil
The purpose of the penetrating oil is to loosen the corroded bolts so that they can be easily unscrewed. Spray the corroded bolt with the oil and let it sit for about 15 minutes before attempting to remove it.
If the screws are still tight after 15 minutes, add more penetrating oil and wait one hour.
If necessary, spray the back of the license plate to get the oil into the bolt and loosen it further.
2. White vinegar can be used to soak rusted screws.
To loosen rusted screws, you should always consider using white vinegar. Pour white vinegar over the corroded screw to remove the rust and allow you to unscrew it more quickly.
Before removing the screws, use a wire brush to remove as much rust as possible.
3. Use an impact wrench
Use an impact wrench with the appropriate bit, as it has a high torque and will help remove any remaining rust after greasing corroded nuts with permeable oil.
This technique has the potential to damage rusted fasteners. Consequently, use it only after all other alternatives mentioned above have been exhausted.
4. Replace rusted screws
